As I stated in Post#? you can get high temp. silicon and make up
specific custom shapes or seal around stove tops in place of those
loose fitting carbonising gaskets, unless you're apt to regularly removing
    the item.

This is the little chappie I am trying to find or make. The hole through the grommet is 6mm

I'd say that particular type of grommet is used for easy fitting at Smev.
A standard grommet will be more difficult to insert especially for
a snug fit but still doable with a bit of olive oil, silicone spray,
    or soapy water.

Thanks Chris, I've decided to give these a go. They should arrive in a few days so I will report back. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions

I found that the stainless steel smev hob had very sharp edges where the grommets fitted and this was the cause of them splitting.

I used a wide bladed screwdriver and gently reamed the sharp edges off, I’ve since had no problems with the grommets splitting.
