    degrees minutes seconds : 40° 26′ 46″ N 79° 58′ 56″ W.
    degrees decimal minutes: 40° 26.767′ N 79° 58.933′ W.
    decimal degrees: 40.446° N 79.982° W.

E and W also make a difference to where you are

    You also get

    degrees minutes seconds : N40° 26′ 46″ W79° 58′ 56″
    degrees decimal minutes: N40° 26.767′ W79° 58.933′
    decimal degrees: N40.446° W79.982°

    ..
    RTFM good advice

I have no idea what co-ordinates I was inputting, the M/Home has been covered for winter, however when I tried in the past, I could not make sense of the thing, and ended up inputting the postcode, that was not very satisfactory, I will study things more, and hopefully will get it sorted.
    Thank for all the information.

I remember having a problem when entering co-ordinates from Google Maps into mine, didn’t know which format to use so tried the lot but didn’t work. Next time I tried though it did but without having the unit with me I can’t remember what I did.

User note. When entering the Longitude you must ignore the minus (-) symbol. The degree symbol must be used for this function to work.

All looks a bit of a mess. Only way you are going to find out is to try it. DDD,MM.mmm looks like they are using the comma as a delimiter. Don't forget when you enter anything with West in it you have to put a [-] in front of it. -DDD,MM.mmm is the West Format while DDD,MM.mmm is the East Format.
Mixing them up will certainly put you in the wrong place.

But the user guide (from which I quoted) specifically says NOT to enter a minus sign!!!:

"User note. When entering the Longitude you must ignore the minus (-) symbol."

Correct but you need to use the minus sign for latitude as it looks like the only way to differentiate between E and W [-]
