    Marine Toilet anyone?

This Laika van we're getting has a marine toilet. Never used one before.

Anyone else have one in their van, if so what are the pros & cons please?

Get the feeling that some people may have retro-fiitted cassettes?

Presumably it has a pump out tank as well Marie.

Marine toilets usually just dump straight out into the water!

    Pro's and cons;

They are generally pretty good and give you the option of having a large black waste tank, but you will need somewhere to pump it out. Most marinas have this facility.

If they block though, and they do! it is a messy and unpleasant job to fix.

They are still allowed on our local river but I disagree with it for environmental reasons and have a normal cassette on my boat. Then again, a lot of cows and sheep dump in the river I suppose.

    For my headucation

When MHs have a marine toilet what type of pump do they have? The op/down piston type with a change -over between evacuation and water flush, or the diaphragm type operated with a longer handle?

Geoff, I have absolutely no idea! This is all alien territory for me I will let you know as soon as I know!!

Here's the video for the Laika Ecovip 400i, fast forward to 13:50, I don't speak Italian but the diagrams are helpful.

I believe it is some sort of dual disposal system? i.e. black waste holding tank and dump directly into waste disposal point (sewer), or waste goes into cassette, remove cassette as normal and take to disposal point.

Robmac thinks it's probably gravity, no pump?
300 or so squids to buy a suitable pump for the 'job' ('scuse the pun)

    see picture
The advantage is the bigger black waste tank.
The disadvantage is that you can't carry it to a toilet to empty it. You have to find a suitable facility, or find a sewerage manhole in a place where you can empty the tank without being in the way of passing traffic.
    I'd not want one!

It sound almost like a multi tank home septic tank,

If there is a direct drain down to empty pipe,

that is suggested in the video,

then a length of flexible hose to carry it to a manhole, or elsan empty point would be very handy I would guess that the flexible pipe would be the sort of hose they use on water pumps.

What was that american film where the chap took his family away in an RV and had a disaster at the pumpout station?

I can just see Neil doing that!
