    Usually a type of polystyrene to stop rubbing and knocking on adjacent gas bottles in transit.

    It tends to be on new bottles, it just stops them banging together.

    Used nylon mesh on dive cylinders, as already mentioned, offer protection to paint work and, ratting off, each other during transport.

    Mine are securely strapped in place so even without the mesh in place they wouldn`t / couldn`t rattle or knock each other

    Got bits of carpet jammed between my 2 x 13 kg gasits...even though they are strapped down as tight as possible. Also got the mesh on the bottles.
