Hi All. The old basic TV system that came with the van 10 years ago has finally given up the ghost. So we have decided to get up to date and have a new satellite TV system fitted.May I please ask can any members advise us of a reliable company in the midlands who supply and fit satellites systems. Plus the pros and cons of TV dish v dome, benefits and disadvantages etc.We have tried Roadpro at Daventry who are booked up until late June.
    Thanks in advance.
The less you do,the older you get.

I used these on my previous c class and will be using them again in the near future, in Wakefield but they do come to your house and the extra charge is reasonable. They are Oyster specialists but do sell / fit other systems.

We used Jacksons to and were very happy with the service.

Do you need a satellite dish?

We have both a dish and an ariel. There are times when the ariel works better than the dish.

The dish needs to see the satellite and trees and other obstructions can be an issue also a big dish has limitations during high winds.

I would always have a digital arial tv system as a minimum and add a satellite system if you want to watch a lot of tv.

I have just up graded to a HD TV so I can get normal terrestrial TV in France.

CONRAD ANDERSON are specialists based in Birmingham, they fitted one for me some years back and they did excellent work, they have a website with some idea of prices. BTW they also fitted an LPG powered 12volt generator which fired up when the batteries got to a low point and it was virtually silent, just saying.

Be aware that digital TV transmission in France uses a different system to that used in the UK.

    They are not compatible systems.

This surprised me, because our Avtex, certainly picks up terrestial TV , in France, so I've researched it, and found that France uses the DVB-T European standard, the same as the UK. The problem is, that many of the French stations, are no longer "Free to Air", so require a subscription.

We use a Snipe II when we are out and about. Fits to a plate that I stuck to the roof using Sikaflex. Takes about a minute to find a satellite. Watched a mammoth dish at the carpark at Helmsley the other week. Round and round it went, up and down it went , then it very neatly put itself away. Owner got out had a look round and off it went again. I would have thought he would have realised that you are not going to get a good signal parked in a smallish car park totally surrounded by trees.

I use a Maxview Crank system. I fitted it myself and was really easy, a few holes needed drilling and a bit of sealer. It really is dead easy. Once I sorted how to tune in to Astra it works great.

Yes you're right for Standard Definition transmissions.

I was confused. High Definition transmissions are not compatible. I bought a HD TV in France and discovered that it would not receive Freeview HD. I have bought a set top box to use in the UK.
