    fuel leak around filler cap

hello - i appear to have lost the rubber washer which sits inside the filler (diesel) cap and so if i put in more than half a tank a little fuel dribbles out and is making a mess of the rear body work. Short of trying to source a new filler cap - a challenge in its own right with my van.... has anyone got any DIY brain wave ideas please to stop this leakage ? i do have a bag of neoprene bits from an old wetsuit, but its quite thick to try making a washer out of... many thanks

Could scissor up a seal from a redundant tyre inner tube.
Check after few fills just to make sure the seal isn't
deteriorating and likely to crumble into your tank.

    Hi Collette.

I have some thin flat rubber I use for gaskets. If you need a piece send me a PM and I will put you some in the post or call in if you are nearby.

You could look at the temporary fuel filler caps, available from fuel stations, not to use but to see if a gasket from one of those would work?

Temporary fix look out for old jam jars, .....what would be the size of the washer you require.

Is there a vehicle scrap yard near you.

Its part of the mot if that's due soon, I read Wilhelm will get you some rubbers that you could carefully cut to shape.

My Delica can leak a little bit even with the washer - not helped by the fact the filler is not much higher than the tank, think its the modern additives in diesel that erode the rubber (A common problem with fuel pump seals).
Do you have a picture of your cap?

sorry to have been so long coming back to everyone..... i have measured the diameter of the fuel pipe and its 7cms. There is a vehicle scrap yard near me but surely old rubber seals would be perished and not terribly effective?
