    Plastic Cucumbers?

Having seen the Banana topic it got me to wondering what other people think of shrink wrapped cucumbers, why bother with a fresh vegetable? Do you buy the plastic ones or look for a more natural one?

I think in cucumbers, the packaging is worthwhile as wrapped ones last 3 times longer than unwrapped. They also lose less weight by evaporation so it's claimed.
I think its something like 1% in a week as opposed to 3% in three days for the bare variety.

Growing mini cucumbers at the moment, a lot more flavour than shop bought ones.

They will have been using the cucumber to stop bags under the eyes I expect. Nice of them to offer you an extra length of sausage though.

My grandkids love them, the problem is they can polish off half a dozen in as many minutes.

I find plastic cucumbers quite difficult to slice

It used to be common here for folk to have a bowl of fake fruit sitting on the sideboard for show, always thought it was daft.

must try them - not keen on cucumber ,but used to get some off an old Portuguese woman who sold in a layby, they were about 4 or 5 inches long but fatter than a shop one, smooth very dark green skin and really tasty,we ate them like apples. shop cucumbers have just a heavily diluted trace of that flavour. mind you, i had a strawberry recently that very nearly tasted of strawberry
