My Twin Granddaughters go to a primary school who have decided to offer music lessons to pupils (7 years old ) and the cost is 50 a month each to borrow a flute which you will never own or keep and on top of that its 5 a lesson this is within school hours. so for a grand total of 140 a month the girls could learn a few notes on the flute.
I'm glad my children are all grown up.

May I suggest you buy a couple of used flutes and rent them at 30 each. Everyone's a winner

I guess the socialist in me ? I want to see everyone of our children given opportunity to blossom not just the gifted ...I know damn well as an adult you have to fight your corner, cope with disappointment and all the rest of it ...but let children be children, Our role is to gift a better world than we inherited it is how it should work

Sorry for the little outburst but it is the way I think .

Whether it is our entertainment with wizardry things or running the country it is the children that matter , In my world that is our obligation

Problem is school budget slashed, so only way is to get parents to stump up,those that can.

Sad state of affairs Trev, I know my eldest we paid for dancing lessons and all the rest of it ,had her wee sister been on the scene at that stage we couldn't have afforded it.

One of my traits if you hadn't noticed I don't think like the mainstream and it does make me wonder 100 kids same opportunity how it would turn out as opposed to wealth getting involved. For the record I don't have a problem how parents spend or dote their brass , but in a wider scale opportunity should exist for all children.

You hit the nail on the head Trev, school budget cuts. Two of the grand bairns 5 and 6 yrs go to a few after school clubs which were free but recently they have had to start paying as the school can no longer afford. Luckily its only 2 a time, so very good value, but as she has 4 kids when they all start with various activities it will work out an expensive do. It doesn't help when you get scum bags nicking the lead off the roof, and its in a small village surrounded by houses at that, they claimed off the insurance but had to find the excess of 500 which came out of school funds, luckily some of the kids did a fundraising and managed to collect enough to pay it. Must say its a very good school, the teachers are lovely.

Flippin eck lass tha can tell thee is from Yorkshire !! Grand Bairns ( grand children to those south of Nottingham )

It is concerning how schools are constantly underfunded, Paula Sherriff bangs on about it in Kirklees ( like a terrier that lass she wont let go)

One of the things under pressure are the schools that run Breakfast clubs, It is proven by ensuring children get that kickstart meal they achieve more, concentrate better and behave better....When you consider that officially over 25% of children are living in poverty it seems criminal that we are allowing welfare to go backwards , even more when you consider the children themselves cant do anything about it

It really gets on my wick
