Do not install the latest update from Microsoft, some people have reported losing some files after installing it, Microsoft have now stopped the rollout and you should not install it until they have said it's safe to do so. They have also promised to recover your lost files.

    Interesting.

I have a spare laptop that was refusing to update until a couple of days ago, and then it said that the update was successful.

I have not yet checked what version is loaded on it yet...

Not everyone reported the lost files problem and I suspect that there are more people that didn't lose any files than people who did, but MS have to play it safe I suppose.

I got 1809 update last month, like all updates it failed when it was programmed to take place overnight and had to be redone the next morning.

The same way I would, use a file recovery software or data recovery company. It's not rocket science, people have been losing files for years and other people have been recovering them for years and not only on the Windows platform. At the end of the day you should back up your important data no matter what system or systems you use.

    Del
