He inspired me on my early days here.
When he was on form ,he was wonderful and helped many.

Shocked and saddened by this bolt from the blue. My thoughts go out to his family. RIP David.

Real shock to me. I always appreciated his posts even if I didnít always agree. He was helpful to a few members on here when the chips were down and that speaks volumes in my view.

    You never know the day.

That is sad news,I didn't always see eye to eye with David,he did call a spade a spade and occasionally upset some members on here.I did accuse him of being a troll on several occassions but in hindsight I was wrong. He wore his heart on his sleeve and said it how he saw it which sometimes got him into trouble.Underneath that prickly exterior was a heart of gold and he did some very helpful posts on here.
We did have several spats and he contacted me via pm a few times. The upshot was he actually invited me to go over and stay at his property in France,I really wish I had taken him up on that offer because he would have been good company.RIP W I N T O N I A N.

This is such sad news I had a lot of time for the French teacher and had the good fortune to meet him at the Whitwell meet what a nice man and a lovely wife thoughts go out to his family.

This is such sad news. David was a unique character who many considered to be very self opinionated, in reality he would go the extra mile to help anyone who asked, and being a true gent he had a tremendous presence and a wonderful demeanour.
We are very lucky to have spent time with him and Hilary, sharing meals and drinks, during his many visits here, and we will mourn his passing very much.
We were very upset when forum contact was lost recently, and who knows it may have been his cancer causing his distressing behaviour towards the end.

    Rest In Peace David.
