Oh, that's really shocked me! RIP David.
Lifted from Giles , Davids sons FB page
I'm so very heartbroken to say that my beloved Father "Pop", David Olley passed away peacefully this afternoon after losing his short battle with a very aggressive Cancer. Many of you knew and loved my Father's unique wit. He did so many incredible things in his life from being a winning yacht racer, running a large international bank, marrying my beautiful Mother Hilary Olley and riding motorbikes (plus so much more).
His wasn't a life half-lived and he certainly didn't get on with everyone. However, he had a heart of pure gold. Everything he did was intended to help someone other than himself. He couldn't help it.
In the last decade, as my passion for motorsport grew, he too found a love for it. 12 years ago he passed his Bike test and we immediately started riding everywhere together. I even gave him my 176 BHP GSXR1000 to play on and as you will see from the attached photos, we even got to ride together at his beloved Snetterton.
Before he became ill, he and my Mother had spent a lot of race weekends at Snetterton and other race tracks this year and I was so very lucky to be able to see them while I was running race meetings and trackdays.
We only found out he had Cancer 6 weeks ago. It was a huge shock but in the time he was well enough, we managed to cram in an enormous amount of fun and memories. In that time, he's been treated to hot laps of Snetterton and a wonderful lap of Brands Hatch. They meant an enormous amount to him. He smiled as long as he was able and never lost his sense of humour. Unfortunately, as quickly as we found out, he was cruelly taken from us today.
I'll love you forever Pop xxx
it transpires David passed away on the 24 th many found David abrasive at the times and a good adversary but I am sure non of us would wish this on the fella
