I had mine done over four and a half years ago and very rarely remember it's there any more! Exercise really is important but don't lose heart if you seem to be doing well for a few weeks and then slip back a bit, temporarily. I think it was about 6 to 8 weeks before I felt really confident it was all good. I still do the exercises to keep the muscles strong... due for my 5 year check up in April. You can expect some fun and personal attention at airports from now on
Good luck and don't forget the 90 degree rule

    All the best for this.

A friend of mine had it done a couple of years ago and hasn't looked back.

    Don't do any gardening!

Neil's mother fell carrying a tray of bedding plants one Friday morning 2 years ago. She was 82 at the time.

There is a steep drop off the edge of her lawn onto a flower bed and she went over it with the side of her foot cos she wasn't looking where she was going (and I'd mentioned loads of times that the flower bed needs topping up as drop from lawn is nearly as high as the cliffs of Dover!).

She landed full length on stone patio and broke her right hip. Was lying there for half an hour shouting for help (back garden is all fenced in) when her next door neighbour just happened to come outside to put something in her bin and heard her.

Ambulance then arrived in no time. She had a full hip replacement by the end of the same day(!), physio routines in hospital next day (Saturday), back home by the Monday, and back out driving her little VW 6 weeks later.

I joked that it was a bit of a drastic way to jump the queue!

Found out the other week that the brother of a good friend of mine makes a lot of the components for artificial hips at his engineering firm, so if the hospital has used one he manufactured it will be top quality

Good luck, Fazor. Your hip should be fine, fingers crossed. The exercises and doing them the right way are the most important, so I understand.

Day 2 first thanks for all the good wishes All last night not a wink of sleep the pain in my lower leg not the area of the op was, was terrible. Physio came this morning to get me up and walking. Everything fantastic to cries of well done that was really great. Then they sat me down. Two minutes later I passed out and pissed myself and then threw up. I really must try and stop all this attention seeking . Must try harder this aft. Feel Ok now though.

Good job your in your hospital gown,

    it saves on the washing,

start on a twist and go, and then move up to a 125

Keep up the good work, getting colder towards the end of the week.
