I only had a T-shirt on (well obviously jeans and trainers as well) but the brisk walk was keeping me warm enough. After a mile or so, a police car pulled up and asked me where I was going. When I told him, he said "you'd better hop in mate or you're gonna freeze to death".

Had a nice chat with them on the way home, they dropped me at the door, wished me happy new year and drove off.

That time of night on new years eve a taxi would have cost me a fortune if I had been able to get one. God bless 'em!

    Next year, Rob,
Instead of phoning a taxi, dial your local nick.
Explain how they kindly prevented you from going to A&E, or being banged up.
Tell them where you'll be and when you'll be staggering out.
Ask for the same proactive policing as last year.
    They love being proactive!

I had to laugh in the pub last night.

I was standing at the bar and in the distance we heard a police car siren. The landlord shouted across the bar "Taxi for Rob!"

They gave you a lift Rob because there were no turkeys left to herd, they'd all been eaten!
