It's the same with a whole lot of other stuff. Google spy on you 24/7 via your Android phone, your Nest smart thermostat, camera etc. Amazon via any and all of their devices (Fire TV, Kindle eReaders, Echo (Alexa) thingies, etc.) Even smart energy meters can provide enough info for those interested to deduce when you're home and (by when the kettle goes on) what you're watching on TV! Have a listen to that Radio 4 programme recently linked in this parish.

I have been in the security industry for over 30 years now.

Good quality locks, and make it as difficult as possible to get to the rear of your home are important.

Also have an intruder alarm installed by an SSAIB certified company, preferably one connected to either your phone line or Wi-fi.

This might sound obvious, but when you are away get a couple of timers for your lighting to come on at night. Also don’t allow empty bins to remain outside your home, get a neighbour to put them back after they have been emptied. You can only do so much, but the more difficult you make it for the burglar the less likely you are to be broken into.

Also door bells linked to your internet help.

If we all agreed there would be no discussion, and it would be a dull boring world.
