Proud of myself today, and recognition why in intensive care I knew my time was early, unfinished business.

I was today an advocate at a personal Independence payment tribunal. the lady concerned suffers mental health issues and fibromygelia and scored nil points at the face to face interview, Armed with a court bundle and the DWPs points of contention slowly picked away at the credibility but remained focussed gaining her an award was the most important thing not proving DWP and their assesors were flawed

To be honest I had reservations about this one so at odds were the conflicting reports, three ladies in attendance one judge ,a doctor and disability specialist, tribunal recessed and we were recalled standard daily care and standard mobility 80 per week back dated to September 2017 and the award under review 2022

The lady burst into tears gave me a hug she is in total shock.....her thanks and seeing the relief was my reward,,,,made a few quid for people over the years nice to give something back

rarely in peoples eyes I am seen as a superstar, thankfully dialysis session went smoothly unlike Saturday 6.30 am start no insomnia tonight perhaps

The whole benefit system is a battle.

I am on new style esa with nil benefits,

but my tax code letter arrived yesterday, and the tax man says I am on the full benifits amount and that income is now taxable, and the taxman has adjusted my taxcode to pay tax on money I don't get.

The DWP told the tax people I am receiving full benefits.

I am sure the whole system is made as difficult as possible, like the time I asked at the job centre if I could put a dirty tissue in the litter bin and the job adviser called security.

    I Daniel Blake.

Always worth appealing as today proved, sadly drawing things out seems a dwp tactic, 67 5 of people win at tribunal we went in today with no points ..it does seem a bit of a lottery

    Soon!!!
Brilliant! You really should feel proud of yourself, not least because you are helping people who often simply don't have the emotional resources to help themselves.
Still waiting for the mandatory review response for the one we discussed...but I fully expect it to go to tribunal. The initial assessment was in September, tenacity is needed in any dealings with the DWP!

I do wonder how the people responsible fit these decisions sleep at night. I've no doubt they would say they are working to guidelines set down for them.....as did the guard's in the concentration camps. The mental anguish they inflict is truly dreadful, especially when it's directed at folk who don't have the mental and physical strength to fight back.
    Well done Andrew.

Surely the cost of all these tribunals to the DWP, whether succesful or not, must be astronomical.
I wonder if it outweighs the savings they make on the benefit cuts...

they do argue it is successful, it costs 548 million contract value for assessors and 38 million to lay papers at tribunal that ignores costs when they can be arsed to turn up with a representative . Labour manifesto vows to scrap the assessors and let the DWP rely on medical reports from specialists and to a lesser extent gps
