I have been in touch with a woman we bumped into going for her final chemo at the hospital. Turns out she was a holistic practitioner my sister used to go to in Hexhamshire. She insisted on giving me her number and to get in touch if I wanted to know anything seeing as she was at the end of her chemo and I was about to start my first.

Anyway, she says that the going is rough and gets really rough towards the end, but that this FEC-T chemo we're all having is the 'beast of all chemos' and annihilates every last cancer cell. No wonder it knocks us for six!! Eek!

My appetite is good just now, but I can smell salted peanuts at 100 yards and they make me want to barf, so weird! rofl
Are you sure you are on the right site if the smell of nuts turns your tum?

Keep at it lass. Sending healing thoughts.

wish you didnt have to go thru it all tho.....keep up the good work......this diet you are on sounds interesting too..........however.if you are giving up dairy....where are you getting an amply supply of calcium from.......take care
No need for dairy, Trixie, and the need for calcium is often overstated, we don't need as much as you think!
1,000 mg per day up to to age 50 for women, then 1,200mg per day and for women over 50 and 1,200mg per day after age 70 for men.

You get calcium from plenty of foods other than dairy:-

Seafood and fresh fish, edible seaweed - 100 grams edible seaweed gives you 625mg of calcium, more that half daily amount required!
Leafy green vegetables (rocket, kale, broccoli, cabbage, okra, spinach)
Seeds (poppy, sunflower, pumpkin, melon, chia, sesame, linseed etc.)
    Beans, pulses, lentils etc.
Sardines, whitebait, pilchards and tinned salmon (thanks to their edible bones)
All nuts (almonds - highest in calcium - walnuts, pecan nuts, pine nuts, hazelnuts etc.)
    Amaranth grain
    Soya beans and tofu
Bread and anything made with fortified flour
Dried figs, rhubarb, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, oranges & orange juice.

Soya milk I just don't like much, but there are loads of other things to use instead; almond milk is v. nice, I drink it every day now, as is cashew and hazelnut milk

Plus you can make non-dairy ice creams with frozen banana or coconut milk as a base, so I will be experimenting when I feel up to it - but that hasn't anything to do with calcium, I just like ice cream!

    You're right, Wilhelm.
Thank god they haven't invented smellyvision - or rather smelly internet - yet!

If they did then of all the nuts on here I think I might be the one making everyone else 'barf' (that's 'vomit' to you, harrow)

Had to look up Amaranth grain and learnt something new!

I guess you are learning lots of new stuff since your diagnosis Marie, you will become our learned friend - like a barista or should that be barrister? Or is it a bannister? Oh I don't know

Nothing in your list of foodstuffs looks too outlandish, although not tried seaweed other than a pint of Kelpie Seaweed Ale which was rather nice.

Like Trixie, I am finding your posts very interesting, so keep them coming chuck.

Seaweed is used in lots of Japanese dishes (and they have extremely low cancer rates in Japan, as it happens)

Nori is the most often seen as it's used to wrap sushi with - and as it happens I love sushi!

When I get back out on the road in the next camper (and I will, god willing) it will be dairy-free pancakes, sushi & other good snacks served from the back of the mobile burger bar at Druridge

Which reminds me, I need to start looking at alternative tasty cake recipes sometime over the next few months.
The I can experiment and try a few out the I'm feeling up to it. No refined/artificial sugar or dairy.
But eggs are well OK, in fact I had 2 boiled ones this morning with some sourdough bread
