Thread: Pi day (not a typo)

1. Pi day (not a typo)

Today, March 14, is international Pi day.

The date, in mm.dd format as used in a lot of countries, is 3.14 which are the first 3 digits of Pi.
(it is also the anniversary of the birth of Albert Einstein which is strangely appropriate).

Pi Day has become a day to celebrate numbers and math, but I will also celebrate by having Pie & Mushy peas for lunch.

Knowing that there are many weird people people in this group, I've started this thread so folks can add mathematics related facts that other like minded people will find interesting.

If you have no interest in maths read the posts about Wild Camping in Whitby, I think they are more of these than grains of sand in the world (currently estimated to be 7,500,000,000,000,000,000).

Here is my starter for 8 :..
8 × 1 + 1 = 9
8 × 12 + 2 = 98
8 × 123 + 3 = 987
8 × 1234 + 4 = 9876
8 × 12345 + 5 = 98765
8 × 123456 + 6 = 987654
8 × 1234567 + 7 = 9876543
8 × 12345678 + 8 = 98765432
8 × 123456789 + 9 = 987654321

Used to go to five places when doing calculations of capacitive reactance at tech school night classes way back in 1972. Never used it since.
