Moving house but where to go ?

Hi its the eternal question I want to move house but where to move to ? I have been thinking about west Wales.

    The requirements are,

Detached house with three bedrooms, preferably with mains water

    no close neighbors

    some land

outbuildings for at least say six cars, not that I have them but I want the covered indoor space

Cooler in summer, London is too hot

Cancer treatment hospital, I have been trying to find out with mine what is happening since they cancelled my appointment at the check in desk,
for the last ten days I have been trying to get an explanation and another appointment.

Budget 500,000 for any refurbishment and moving costs but of course I would prefer to spend less

So where should I go apart from hell ?

Like all the "Escape to...." programmes it is worth looking at places that do not meet your spec.

I had a spec a bit like yours, 450k, 4 bed, detatched, outbuildings, rural etc.
We bought a 350 year old 2 bed semi detatched cottage right on the road. It is idyllic with a river 100m away, a pub 50 metres, another pub & shop 3/4 mile away, fronting a road but it is most definitely rural in the most glorious surroundings at the foot of the Black Mountains (still in England though), have made it work for us & absolutely love it.

If you are moving & need support for cancer I would choose somewhere with a friendly & supportive community & surroundings that make you smile every day. I can't help with cancer hospitals but there must be web sites with information/opinions on these.

Best of luck with your search.

This sort of thing, that has no neighbors, but I don't know whats available in other parts of the UK.

As far as my local cancer treatment hospital, I got an apology telephone call this morning and the person phoning me did not know their arse from their elbow and started off by talking complete and utter bollocks, using the incorrect medical records, they did not have a bloody clue, god help us.

    Our lives in their hands.

You could have a look at the welsh/english border counties, having walked the Offas dyke path it passes through some beautiful areas . Counties I like are Herefordshire and Shropshire.

What started me off in the beginning was TV's escape to the country and started me looking at west Wales.

For instance car driving around here is a nightmare, with a possibility of getting stabbed or shot, in west Wales people were friendly, little country lanes people smiled and waved when they gave way, it was so much more relaxed and happier.

1 and 3 look very promising, I can remember someone moving to County Antrim and that house looked fantastic.

Much depends on how fit and healthy an individual is, and how long
they can reasonably expect to stay that way. Remoteness often goes
with dependence on a car, how long before the car has to be
given up, where are the shops, doctor, dentist, what about travel distance
    to relatives.
Not negativity, just reality, my dad has just recently had to ponder these
    considerations.

I like the North Eastby which I mean Northumberland and the North Pennines. The Freeman in Newcastle sorted my cancer, but I needed specialist surgery so my local trust couldnt handle it. Dont assume that just because a hospital is near you, that it is run by your local health trust.

Best thing though was the Maggie Centre at the Freeman, really helpful with advice and support and somewhere to go while waiting at the hospital. In my experience if you are rural and need to go to the city for treatment, you can never time the journey, usually I arrived early and the Maggie Center gives you somewere to go, look them up they are great. Suggest whatever hospital you choose and whatever area, check if they have a Maggie Centre.
    Good Luck

We bolted to n Devon. Great active village community. Pubs, drs, post office and small library. Lots of great scenery. Can be 20 mins before we see another car ... out of season. Love the house and village but not ready to settle down yet, so let as holiday lets until we are.
