    Maps Update

    CLICK HERE TO REMOVE THESE ADVERTS
    Hi,
    if you are using the nozatec like mine it will soon let you know if it thinks the maps are out of date by a big message on the screen. Mine came with a card instruction how to use their update site - Free maps download for Car GPS Navigators and the ID and password. If you've got the same card follow the instructions - it does work as they say.

    Edit the KML file to get the correct icons

    If you want iGo to show the correct icons, you need to alter the .kml file in a text editor.

    It's not difficult. You need to replace the fourth line that says

    <name>Wild Camp</name>

    with

    <name>Wild Camp</name><metadata><igoicon><filename>Wild Camp.bmp</filename></igoicon></metadata>

    Personally, I also remove all this rubbish as well, though I'm not sure you have to:

    <StyleMap id="waypntStyle">
    <Pair>
    <key>normal</key>
    <styleUrl>#waypntStyle0</styleUrl>
    </Pair>
    <Pair>
    <key>highlight</key>
    <styleUrl>#waypntStyle1</styleUrl>
    </Pair>
    </StyleMap>
    <Style id="waypntStyle0">
    <IconStyle>
    <scale>1.2</scale>
    <Icon>
    <href>http://maps.google.com/mapfiles/kml/shapes/campground.png</href>
    </Icon>
    <hotSpot x="0.5" y="0" xunits="fraction" yunits="fraction"/>
    </IconStyle>
    <ListStyle>
    </ListStyle>
    </Style>
    <Style id="waypntStyle1">
    <IconStyle>
    <scale>1.4</scale>
    <Icon>
    <href>http://maps.google.com/mapfiles/kml/shapes/campground.png</href>
    </Icon>
    <hotSpot x="0.5" y="0" xunits="fraction" yunits="fraction"/>
    </IconStyle>
    <ListStyle>
    </ListStyle>
    </Style>
    <Folder>
    <name>Waypoints</name>

    and then very near the bottom of the file, I remove the line that says

    </Folder>

    You have to do this for each release of the POI file

    And you also have a one-off task: copy the file "Wild Camp.bmp" from the TomTom folder of the zip file to \content\userdata\usericon on your iGo device.

    The same approach works for the other POI files.

    Checking the version of your maps is easy.

    Go into the Help menu, then choose About / Content / Maps. It will tell you the version you have installed. Probably something like Q2 2014.

    Finding the latest maps is slightly more tricky. There are two major maps suppliers: TomTom (used to be called TeleAtlas) and Here (used to be called NavTeq). Both seem to release updates about four times a year, but it seems to take 3 to 9 months for the updates to arrive.

    The latest TomTom maps I know of are June 2015, but I don't like Tomtom maps, so I haven't looked for a while; there may be newer around.

    The newest Here maps I know of are Q2 2016.

    Note that for a motorhome, you don't just need the fda, fbl, fpa (plus fsp, fjw and hnr files if possible); you also need the matching ftr files that include size and weight restrictions. Without the ftr information, it can't plan routes for your size of vehicle.
