    Look in the POI'S..
That's what you have paid for.
Port Solent Shopping car park, might be busy at this time of year.
    Good Wetherspoons, though.

I think Port Solent is Portsmouth, not Plymouth. When we arrive late in Plymouth we either stay at the port but it can be noisy. Our preferred stopover is any of the several stopovers near Yelverton, right on the moor, very peaceful and only about 10 to 15 miles from the ferry port.

As stated by Tonybvi, Port Solent is not exactly near to Plymouth!
I stayed at the CR south-east of Plymouth (the other side of the River Plym) one night in June 2016 - rather busy with boy racers and other visitors but superb views of Plymouth Sound.

We overnighted in the lanes at the Plymouth port 8 weeks ago on our way out.
On our way in, 2 weeks ago, we overnighted in a new car park in the port, next to the lanes dedicated to ferry traffic.
    Both no charge

We always stay at the port but to one side, usually some other vans there. Once the staff tapped on the window in the morning to let us know they were opening the check in!

Either a senior moment or they have relocated Port Solent..!
