Are all other gas appliance's working I ask this because the first 10 secs of your heater fan is to clear any gas that might be left inside it

Check that the fan is working, it is part of the safety circuit as it operates a switch for the ignition circuit.

If the fan is working, check other stuff is working such as all the burners on the hob, if they're ok it could be the control panel, some used ones on Ebay and if it's the gas end I've seen those on ebay and I think someone used to do repairs as well.

Basic gas (Oven / hob / fridge) Modus Operandi
While you hold the button in you are holding the main gas supply open, when you release it the gas supply is shut off.
However, a thermocouple (well done @st3v3 ) sits in the flame and if the thermocouple detects heat it holds the main gas supply open.

Your problem
Sounds like the gas couple says no heat (i.e. gas no lit) and shuts the valve so the moho is not full of unburnt gas
The burner works whilst you hold the button in. When you let go the valve is closed. The gas in the pipe is burned. The gas goes out.

Probable cause
a) The thermocouple has been moved out of the flame. Quite possible and a quick, free easy fix.
b) The thermocouple has failed. Replacement is quick easy and arund £10

Further help.
Youtube is full of videos showing how to move / test / replace thermocouples.

Good Luck.

Thinking a bit more, I recon as this is all electronic control the ignition electrode will be doubling as a flame presence sensor. The flame bridging the burner and the electrode will allow a small current to flow. House boilers use a similar principle.

No idea if it's a sensor or a control board problem though.

Just in case they do look in again, I don't think anyone has mentioned taking off the cover on the vent outside. It won't stay lit if that is on.

Carver Cascade 2s don't have a removable cover Caz, I think only the Truma ultrastore has those.

£50 & it's cracked and broken too.
